Red Deer is a city in the central part of Alberta, Canada. It is Alberta's third most populous city, behind Calgary and Edmonton, and is the 44th largest in Canada. The location of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada is at Latitude: 52° 16' 5" North, Longitude: 113° 48' 40" West. Red Deer is directly between Calgary and Edmonton. The city of Red Deer is at an elevation of 900 meters or approximately 2,800 feet. Red Deer gets its name from the Red Deer River which runs through the city. Sylvan Lake and Gull Lake are two of the more well known lakes of Red Deer. Red Deer first started out as a trading post in 1882. In 1901 it was incorporated as a town, and in 1913 a city. Red Deer's roots from the frontier days gives it's people a pioneering and adventurous spirit.
